Neum Is Much More Than Sunny Beaches and the Sea<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Neum, Bosnia and Herzegovina\u2019s only outlet to the Adriatic Sea, is much more than sunny beaches and crystal-clear waters. It is a place where the Herzegovinian spirit naturally intertwines with Mediterranean charm, creating a unique atmosphere that visitors return to\u2014not only for the sea and the sun, but for the feeling.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The town has a rich history dating back to ancient times, as evidenced by numerous archaeological sites in the surrounding area. It was first mentioned in 533 under the name Neuense<\/em>and, over the centuries, was part of the Republic of Dubrovnik, then the Ottoman Empire, and from 1878 became an integral part of Bosnia and Herzegovina, while preserving its distinctive Mediterranean character.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Today, Neum is a modern tourist destination with well-developed infrastructure, a long tradition of hospitality, and a strong local identity. History and Culture<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Neum is an area of rich history reaching back to antiquity, as confirmed by numerous archaeological sites in its vicinity. Although it was first mentioned under the name \u201cNeuense\u201d in 533, traces of settlement in this area date back to much earlier periods.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Neum as a Modern Tourist Destination<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Until 1718, Neum belonged to the Republic of Dubrovnik, after which it was handed over to the Ottoman Empire as a buffer zone between Dubrovnik and the Republic of Venice.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

With the arrival of the Austro-Hungarian Monarchy in 1878, Neum became part of Bosnia and Herzegovina, while retaining its unique Mediterranean spirit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the mid-20th century, a new chapter in its history began with the development of infrastructure, the construction of the first hotels, and the transformation of Neum into a modern tourist destination.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Despite various influences over the centuries, Neum has preserved its authentic Herzegovinian identity, which is still felt today in everyday life, traditions, and the hospitality of its people.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Neum Beaches<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Neum offers more than 20 kilometers of coastline with a variety of beaches to suit all tastes, from family-friendly beaches to those seeking peace and seclusion. Four main city beaches stand out in particular, located directly along the seaside promenade.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

All of these beaches are pebble beaches with gently sloping access to the sea, making them suitable for children and swimmers of all levels.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
